Account details delay player payments, official says
Saidu Musa, a senior tennis official and director of the CBN Open Senior Tennis Championship, revealed that most of the players who participated in the just-concluded tournament have received their payouts.
Musa said in a statement in Abuja on Tuesday that the few unpaid players were those who had not yet submitted their bank details or those who had incomplete bank details.
He added that more than 90% of the players who participated in the tournament had received all their money and only a few were left.
“The treasurer will pay them in cash and those who have account numbers but have not received their money, are those who have not dropped the correct bank details or bank name. So when those who were making the payments downloaded the number they provided, the money didn’t go out, it bounced back because of the wrong account number, which they will have to download again,” the tennis official explained.
He added: “The federation secretary account number has been affected and will need to be returned after correction. It is regrettable; what happened has never happened before. Normally the federation takes the money and pays the player in cash.
According to Musa, the remaining players will receive their money between June 1 and June 2.
“I believe that the following tournaments will not have the same problem. The president of the federation is not happy with this matter. He sympathizes with the players and I have to come back to Abuja to resolve this situation and I am optimistic that this will not affect sponsorship,” Musa added. “We are already working on it and it won’t happen again.”
The 2022 edition of the CBN Tennis Tournament had 64 male players and 32 female players who competed in the 10-day championship inside the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja.
